Steve Crawshaw looks back on a Reuters wire that announced that The Independent would fold, listing its financial troubles in detail, 22 years before the print edition would finally come to an end. Ironically, while the Reuter’s story was killed and replaced with a much rosier story about a change in ownership, it accurately portrayed the underlying precariousness that marked much of the paper’s existence.
