Watching my home in crisis…from Germany
Scientist Mario Alemi left for Germany as corruption investigations dug deep into the Italian political system, and he remembers looking at his home country during this eventful period from abroad. One week before he left for Germany, the Italian lira was devalued during the European Currency Crisis. He remembers understanding how profound the political crisis was when he saw a headline in Italian daily paper la Repubblica implicating Socialist leader Benedetto “Bettino” Craxi.
