Michael Barrett remembers attending St Mary’s College, an Irish Christian Brothers school in Crosby, Liverpool. He recollects the violence and punishments the Christian Brother’s and other teachers gave to pupils. The Congregation of Christian Brothers is a global Catholic religious organisation involved in education. Michael talks about methods of punishment and how he was beaten for standing to let another boy get passed him in class. Over recent decades, there have been a number of notable cases which have exposed the emotional, physical and sexual abuse of children in the Irish Christian Brothers’ educational and care facilities from around the world.
