Guest editor Bono’s conference call with Blair and Brown

Terry Kirby remembers sitting with rockstar and Independent guest editor Bono, who had organized a last minute conference call with Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor Gordon Brown for an article about what the British government was doing to address poverty. Kirby recounts his frustration at Bono’s lyrical questions and failure to get substantial answers, although he distinctly recalls that Gordon Brown–possibly speaking from a bathroom somewhere in the world–clearly had a mastery over the subject matter, while Blair characteristically glossed over the issues.
