I was treated like a servant by my host family

David Davies, an evacuee in World War II, describes the jobs he was made to do as an evacuee. He says he was treated like a servant by his host family – being sent to pick food for the family that they would then sell. Although he knew the family were being paid for his labour, he says he never saw the money himself.
