The war created a new future for Kurdistan

Humanitarian expert Stafford Clarry notes that while the First Gulf War created an opening for Kurdish autonomy in Iraq, the Second Gulf War in 2003 “blew the door wide open.” The quality of life also changed tremendously after the war, as many Kurds had suffered under a ‘double embargo’ in the 1990s that largely cut them off from the outside world.
